A Day on the Farm: Discover the magic of the farm through these wonderful songs - Ages 4 to 7
By Maria B. Lostoski

"A Day on the Farm" is a charming collection of thirteen songs, flowing without dialogue or narration that tells a story of farm life from the perspectives of the various inhabitants. Perform the whole program or pick and choose among songs about roosters, hens, donkeys, cats, dogs, sheep, geese, cows, and/or pigs. All of the songs cleverly and often hilariously voice the feelings of the animals (as well as the human folk) as they go about their daily routines on a typical day on the farm. Minimal use of sets, props, or costumes. Kit includes: book with vocal scores/piano accompaniment /guitar chords; performance suggestions; sing-along and performance /accompaniment CD.

Amazing Songs5
I saw kindergartners performing these delightful songs. The students seemed to be having so much fun. "A Day on the Farm" written and directed by Lower School Music Teacher extraordinaire, Maria Lostoski is a just wonderful show. I loved experiencing the musical adventures of some of the cutest bunch of farm animals I have ever seen. Congratulations!

Garth Live from Central Park [VHS]
From Orion

high octane entertainment5
Even people that don't care for country music will appreciate this concert, filmed in August of 1997 in Central Park. It is 100% pure entertainment, with no gimmicks, and no outrageous behavior, just brilliant musicianship, great songs, and a lot of love between the audience and Garth.
The band is terrific, among them the incredible Steve McClure (steel guitar) and Jimmy Mattingly (fiddle).
Most of the first hour is filled with eleven songs: "Rodeo", "Papa Loved Mama", "The Beaches of Cheyenne", "Two of a Kind, Workin' on a Full House", "The Thunder Rolls", "We Shall be Free", "Unanswered Prayers", "The River", "That Summer", "Callin' Baton Rouge", and "Shameless".

Billy Joel then joins Garth for ten fantastic minutes, singing "Ain't Goin' Down (Til the Sun Comes Up)", and a jazzy duet of "A New York State of Mind" with Jim Horn on saxophone adding to the magic.
When Garth sings "A New York State of Mind", and hits some of the most beautiful notes I've ever heard from him, one realizes that he would have reached the top of his field no matter what genre of music he chose to perform in.

The next 50 minutes include:
"The Fever", "Friends in Low Places", "The Dance".
Don McClean joins Garth for a marvelous rendition of his "American Pie".
Garth then sings "Much Too Young" and "If Tomorrow Never Comes", and is joined by Billy Joel once more for a rousing finale of Joel's "You May Be Right".
This performance is a refreshing example of superb talent, at its brightest, and is a concert that will provide enjoyment for years of repeated viewing.

This video is a Garth concert in your home.5
I currently own this video and love it. If I didn't have a bunch of his other videos I would certainly wear out this tape. For all of his fans this is a must have. Especially if you can not make it to his concerts. Just recently I had the pleasure of seeing him live and in concert, this video does that it makes you feel as if you are at a concert. It gives out the vibes that he gives. For those that saw it on HBO still need to buy this tape. You missed the stage catching on fire and Garth's reaction to it. Missed Garth and his idol Billy Joel singing their hearts and souls out. Missed great songs such as The River, If Tommorow Never Comes and The Dance. Also missed the high energy song Ain't Goin Down till The Sun Comes Up. BUY THIS VIDEO YOU WON'T REGRET THE MONEY YOU SPENT.

I love this concert5
It's all of the good things that others have said but the one thing that struck me most while watching it (shortly after 9/11) was the irony at the end of the song "We Shall Be Free", when a huge banner with the word "Freedom" was unrolled between the 2 World Trade buildings. It still gives me chills.

Key Features

The Longest-Lasting Macbook Battery Ever--Up to 7 Hours

Now take MacBook with you everywhere without worrying about plugging in or even carrying your power adapter. Its built-in lithium-polymer battery lasts up to 7 hours on a single charge, which makes it perfect for long flights, all-day workshops, and marathon study sessions. Thanks to its advanced battery chemistry and charging technology, the MacBook battery can be recharged up to 1000 times--good for about five years of typical usage--and lasts nearly three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries.

A Comfortable Keyboard Your Fingers Will Love
The MacBook's keyboard is full size, with keys that are curved to contain your fingers and highly responsive to your touch. Its low-profile design integrates perfectly into the unibody enclosure, so you'll get a comfortable experience whether you're typing a quick email or writing a lengthy research report. The keyboard also gives you one-touch access to music and video controls and Mac OS X features such as Dashboard and Exposé.

Spacious Glass Multi-Touch Trackpad
The new MacBook Multi-Touch trackpad has no button because it is the button. Not having a separate button also makes for a larger trackpad surface, giving your fingers more room to move, click, and gesture. And because the trackpad supports Multi-Touch gestures, you can use one or more fingers to interact with your documents, images, and applications with gestures such as two-finger scroll, pinch, swipe, and rotate. If you come from a right-click world, you can configure a right-click area on the trackpad or simply press with two fingers.

Some of the multi-touch gestures you can perform with the MacBook.

Wireless That Works
Connect to the Internet at fast speeds anywhere thanks to the built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi. Like everything else about a Mac, joining Wi-Fi networks couldn't be simpler. If you've previously connected to a network, your Mac automatically logs you in so you can immediately email, surf the web, or video chat. Have a Bluetooth-enabled phone, headset, keyboard, or mouse? They can all connect to your MacBook courtesy of built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR--and it remembers all your devices, too

Innovative Power Cord
The MagSafe Power Adapter has a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So if someone happens to trip over the power cord while you're working, they won't send your new MacBook flying off a table or desk. Instead, the cord breaks cleanly away, without damage to either the cord or the system. As a bonus, you can tell if your MacBook is fully charged when the LED on the connector changes from amber to green.

Easy Access To Connections And Ports
The connections and ports on MacBook--MagSafe power, Gigabit Ethernet, Mini DisplayPort, USB, and audio in/out--are all smartly integrated on the same side of the notebook. So your cables stay neatly organized, and connecting and disconnecting your devices is easy and convenient.

  • Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard (includes Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Photo Booth, Front Row, Xcode Developer Tools)
  • iLife '09 (includes iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, iDVD)

Environmentally Friendly Design

Because Apple designs both hardware and software, we can reduce our environmental footprint in ways others can't. For starters, a highly efficient power supply reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your Mac. Unlike a lot of PCs, a Mac uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power--even between keystrokes.

A Mac also doesn't contain a lot of toxic materials. All Mac displays are mercury and arsenic free, and the internal components are free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs).

Advanced Power Management
Unlike a lot of Windows-based PC systems, MacBook uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power. Mac OS X spins down hard drives and activates sleep mode on already energy-efficient LED-backlit displays. And it balances tasks across both central processors and graphics processors. Mac OS X never misses a power-saving opportunity, no matter how small. It even regulates the processor between keystrokes, reducing power between the letters you type. That's just one of many ways Apple manages small amounts of power that add up to big savings.

Longer-lasting Battery--Lasts up to 5 Years
The removable batteries in most notebooks are designed to be replaced every year or two, which means lots of batteries are used up and discarded. But the battery in the new MacBook lasts up to five years--or 1000 recharges. So it uses just one battery in the same time a typical notebook uses three, reducing waste and environmental impact. And to help ensure that batteries are disposed of in an environmentally responsible way, Apple offers a battery take-back program in 95 percent of the countries in which it does business.

ENERGY STAR Qualification
The MacBook meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, making it ENERGY STAR qualified. ENERGY STAR 5.0 sets significantly higher efficiency limits for power supplies and aggressive limits for the computer's typical annual power consumption.

No Reason Not to Consider, Same Punch, Smaller Price4
I had intended to purchase my mother a Macbook for some time now. I wobbled between the several models I considered. However, Apple's late October 2009 update to the white polycarbonate MacBook made the decision much easier.

Reasons for my Decision - With this update to the 13-inch white MacBook, Apple gave its entry-notebook impressive numbers. The processor a 2.26 GHZ Core 2 Duo is the same processor found in the 13-inch MacBook Pro. 2GB of memory? Same as the Pro. Nvidia 9400 Graphics, Same as the Pro. Hard drive? 250 GB, bigger than the MacBook Pro (it has 160GB only).

Yes, considering the larger hard drive, 250 versus 160, this white MacBook actually gives you a higher specification computer in some regards than the $200 more expensive MacBook Pro 13-inch. Remember this updated white MacBook also now incorporates the unibody under its polycarbonate shell. The unibody provides strength, and I must say this notebook is very solid. Furthermore, Apple has incorporated a long-life battery! The only downside is Apple must replace it, though it has a longer life cycle. In terms of performance, my mother reported to me simple usage of nearly six hours on a charge. Impressive. Blows away my older Mac notebook's battery.

Yes, this white MacBook does lack the remote control sensor, Firewire Port, and backlit keyboard that the MacBook Pro would offer, but my mother would likely not use those features and she had an affinity towards the white polycarbonate. The white does look nice, but handle and place it on surfaces very carefully as it will show light scratches easily.

The bottom of the MacBook is a bit strange. It is a rubber seal so to speak like what is found on the bottom of Airport Extreme and Apple TV. I'm not certain I like that choice by Apple. The material does pick up dirt easily. I would recommend wiping off whatever surface you are going to sit the computer on, to remove light dust, if you worry about the computer's appearance.

Overall, I was looking to find a quality Mac, for my mother. I didn't want to compromise performance, and I feel I didn't despite choosing this entry-level MacBook. Truly, with its stats, it can hardly be called entry level. My daily Mac is only slightly faster. These computers are getting faster and faster, and they impress me. Snow Leopard is great, and my mother is enjoying iPhoto and iMovie, all included with the computer.

The price to value of this MacBook is remarkable. At two hundred less than the MacBook Pro you get the same speed and memory, plus a larger hard drive. You can't argue with that. I didn't, and the MacBook has impressed.

First Mac, more to come5
Since Windows 95 I have been a PC user, I have been through 95, 98, 98se, millennium, xp and vista and I have had enough. I've been through 3 PC laptops in 4 years and only one of those didn't have fatal hardware failures or viruses. I used Mac's briefly in 99' and didn't understand them at all and have shunned them ever since. Finally after my last laptops motherboard started failing I decided it was time to take the leap to a Mac. The main reason I did this was because I've heard so many good things about them and I have had two iPhones and wanted to continue with Apple products. I waited for the new models to come out first before I got one because I have a habit of always wanting to get the new gizmos. Price is a little higher than what I'm used to but you get what you pay for. It was a little tough getting used to the OS right off the back, as a Windows user this is like going to a foreign country and trying to talk to someone there. I've had it for almost a 2 1/2 weeks now and so far I couldn't be happier. There are very few flaws that I have found, the edge of the laptop is too "sharp" and I get lines on my wrists but my typing teacher would yell at me anyway for that. Performance wise this thing flies! I thought about getting the Macbook pro but could not justify spending more money and getting the same/lower specs (i.e. 160gb hard-drive in the pro, 250gb in the macbook, same processor, same graphics, same RAM, same battery). I can live without the SD slot, simple USB adaptor can fix that, no need for firewire and I don't type in the dark so I can do without the backlight keyboard. At this rate I don't see myself going back to PC anytime soon!

Solid upgrade for the MacBook5
Pros:

- Unibody enclosure
- Same battery as the MacBook Pro
- Same graphics and processor (low end) of 13" MBP
- Glass multi-touch trackpad
- 250GB Hard Drive (bigger than entry level MBP)
- DDR3 RAM
- LED Backlit Display
- SuperDrive
- New AC Adapter (I just like it better. Basically the same as a MB Air's)
- Snow Leopard
- Price

Cons:

- No backlit keyboard
- Bezel around the display isn't as "refined" and the edge to edge glass on the MBP
- No Firewire. Isn't that big for current products as most things are going USB, but legacy items and high transfer rates of Firewire 800 or sustained throughput of 400 would have been nice.
- Battery is non-removable. Again, could be a big deal for some.
- "Non-slip" bottom is rather slippery and tends to gather crud easily, but then again, it's easy to wipe clean
- While I would surely say that the new case is more pro than con (looks better, doesn't get dirty as easily, fingerprints rub right off) that high gloss is rather easy to scratch.
- Finally, this is more neutral than con, I would have liked to have seen a $50 price drop, putting this machine for students and educators, who make up a sizable chunk of Apple's target demographic, at $899. With everything that has changed on this machine, I can see why it didn't happen.

Overall, I would say that this is an very solid machine. For those looking for the "best overall value" in the notebook line, I say that it would be a toss up for me between this guy and the 2.53 MBP. For most users, this is more than enough machine and would be my pick for them. With the overall features, value, and redesigned exterior (and interior), this is really a great machine.

Alfred's MAX Guitar 1 (Book & DVD)
By L. C. Harnsberger, Ron Manus

Learn to play guitar fast with this Book and DVD from Alfred —the world leader in educational music publishing. You’ll start off learning the parts of the guitar, how to hold and tune the instrument, and the basics of reading music. The book & DVD continues by teaching the notes on all six strings, some basic three-string chords, and provides music examples and exercises every step of the way. The book and DVD work together, quickly and effectively communicating every important concept. An incredible value!

Look elsewhere for visual help2
This DVD is worthless. There is an intro on dvd, with a guy sitting with his guitar showing you how to hold it, the parts of the guitar, and hand position, etc. It is meant to be viewed as you follow along in the book. The problem is that you play along with an audio only track, no video. Why don't you just include a cd? I thought the point of a DVD is so I can hear and SEE what you are trying to show me. Also, when you start the track you are given a four count, and the teacher begins. A real pain when I am trying to hit the play button on my remote and then try to get my fingers where they are supposed to be before this dude starts playing. I also think the tempo is a little quick, as I found myself using poor technique just to keep up.

I gave this about 3 hours of effort before I just gave up on this book.

Best Guitar Book I've ever bought!5
I read the other reviews that were negative on this book, but I have to say I have always struggled to learn how to play the guitar and read music until I got this book. I love the book so much I got the 2nd book once I had mastered this one. I think it's a great book to lean the guitar and to learn how to read music. I will agree with one of the other commentators that the CD that comes with the books are not very good, but you don't really need them. Just study the book on your own, and you'll be playing and reading music in no time. I think it's the best guitar book out there, and I highly recommend it!

Bored me to Tears!2
This book was one of the most boring books for a beginner in my opinion. The material they cover is adequate, but for some reason it just really didn't get me excited to play like the "Guitar Basics" by Bruce Buckingham did.

Greatest Hits
Enrique Iglesias

Album Description
16 HITS Including, "Bailamos," "Hero," and "Be With You"! The collection includes 2 brand new songs: "Away" featuring Sean Garrett, and "Takin' Back My Love" featuring Ciara.

Good...But could have been better5
I have been a long time fan of Enrique Iglesias. Ever since 2001 when Escape came out I knew I would be a huge fan. I just got such a great high listening to that music. Naturally I went out and bought his previous english album, and all the ones after that.
I Was excited when I heard news of a Greatest Hits Album. Having heard all his Studio albums in full I can say i'm also a bit dissapointed, since there were so many hidden gems that didn't even become singles, songs like "Roamer", "Love 4 Fun", "If The World Crashes Down", "Sad Eyes", "Your My #1" or "Ring My Bells" (Don't Worry. I'm not crazy, Enrique's Hardcore fans will know what i'm talking about).
But as for the casual fan This compilation is all you'll ever need, since it has all the singles on it from Enrique's MTV hey day (Escape Era) and then some....They're all here from the signature hits "Hero", "Bailamos", "Be With You", "Escape", "Do You Know"...to the other hit singles "Love To See You Cry", "Rhythm Divine", "Addicted" ect.
The reason I feel this could have been better is if "Ring My Bells" had been on this collection (IT'S THE SONG FROM THE TRUE STAR COMMERCIAL, SO CHECK IT OUT IF YOU CAN), but then again it wasn't a single, so Why would it be on this album? This collection appears to be just for the casual listeners, as they might not own any of his Studio Albums. As I said if you're a casual listener of Enrique, this is the only CD You need to own, still it would have been nice if Interscope had put some more hits on here. There's room for more, since this CD is pretty short for a Greatest Hits clocking in at only 66 Minutes, but still it's a decent summary of Enrique's hits from the last Decade, and anyone more than a casual listener will probably own his albums anway, and might just buy this for the 2 New tracks. The new single "Away" is great, and "Takin' Back my Love" with Ciara is catchy, once you give it a listen or two.
Fans of this album would also do well to pick up "95/08" (his Spanish Language Greatest Hits Album) if you're just getting into Enrique, This is the Album to Start off with.

Overall this album captures his first 2 albums "Enrique" and "Escape"
at their best, preferabbly the singles, however "7" and "Insomniac" leave something to be desired. If youre a casual fan it won't matter much though. All the singles are here. Buy it for the songs from his first 2 albums, and the new tracks.

Peace . Out.

Reintroducing Enrique3
Back in the late 90's, we've seen a huge Latin explosion in the music industry. While there have been acts that have been more about hyppe, and less of heart and soul like Jennifer Lopez, who hasn't really been a credible singer lately, or Ricky Martin, who hasn't really made an English pop album in years who just made everyone say they were Livin' La Vida Loca so much, others made it because of their family bonds. That was the case with Enrique Iglesias. His family has had a enormous career with singing because of the triumphs of his father Julio, and his sibling Julio Iglesias Jr., who has a moderate career in English a few years ago. But, it is hard to believe that it has been nearly 10 years, and Enrique has been the last Latin crossoverof the 90's act standing today. Now, his English music career is celebrated with a new hits collection.

Enrique Iglesias 2008 Greatest Hits, is a single disc reflection of his biggest ballads and seducing women to dance, that spans his 1st decade of success. The collection is noble, and a simple reintroduction to what he has brought to the table. The songs have all been remastered well, and include his boldest songs. All the hits are here from his seductive dance smashes like Bailamos and Rhythm Divine, to his intimate ballads such as Hero and the overlooked and seductive Could I Have This Kiss Forever with Whitney Houston. There are a few new songs here that really lack a bit of chemistry though, that miss the mark by a longshot including Away with Sean Garrett, and Takin' back My Love with Ciara, which feels like it is lacking soul and heart. That is something you haven't yet heard from Enrique, and that makes the new songs feel more like a turnoff than a starter for love and games in bed.

Still, despite those new tracks which feel more like a drag than seductive starters, Enrique Iglesias Greatest Hits isn't a bad buy for hard core fans, but mostly could've had a bit more for those who haven't yet heard any of his standards at all. While it isn't a bad purchase, I just was honestly hoping for a bit more to say that the rhythm was more divine to.

Great Music, bad artwork5
Enrique Iglesias, Is by far my Favorite Male Performer I was so excited to hear of a greatest hits package.
The music as always from Enrique is the Best, But being that I am a creative person I have to say you can tell the record company through the package together very quickly. The pictures of Enrique Are very good but, the CD itself is plain White no artistry at all and the booklet, dull no lyrics.
I already know the lyrics but to have them included would of been nice , and the chart positions would have been nice to see. this booklet is very thin with just pics and a tracklist, very boring. and the cover could have been better as well.
With Enriques awsome talent he deserves better than a quick thrown together CD.

For this Nancy Meyers-directed romantic comedy, Hans Zimmer serves up a breezy score quite different from the more heavy-duty works he's become known for. This may have something to do with the film's tone, of course, but also with the fact that Zimmer has sole credit on only two cues, having co-written the others with members of his extensive stable of helpers, including guitarist Heitor Pereira and even pop artist Imogen Heap (who also contributes wordless vocals in addition to getting writing credits on three tracks). In the film, Jack Black's character is a composer who namedrops Ennio Morricone; Zimmer steps up to the challenge with the opening track, "Maestro" (one of his solo compositions), which evidently seeks to emulate the romantic sweep of some of Morricone's scores and nearly succeeds. (This may sound like a criticism but getting near Morricone level is nothing to sneeze at.) A little later "Verso e Prosa," a collaboration between Pereira and Herb Alpert--who contributes his immediately identifiable trumpet--also stands out. If the rest of the CD had shown as much spirited zest as these two tracks, the album could have become a prized addition to any soundtrack lover's library; alas, the other cues are too devoid of personality to make a lasting impression. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

SCORE SOUNDTRACK Means No Singing, People4
It's absolutely amazing how people still don't get the concept of a scores soundtrack, then rate it low because "It's just boring background music." If you scroll down to the track listings and you don't see any artists listed, that should be your first clue. With that said...

I think Hans Zimmer did an excellent job on the score for the "Holiday," and it's very obvious that he took his inspiration from the wonderful Ennio Morricone, a legendary composer whose music is actually featured in this movie (when Jack Black's character, Miles, meets Kate Winslet's, Iris, for the first time, you can hear it playing from his car). I'm a sucker for lushly romantic music, and if you are too, you won't be disappointed in this music.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the music is somewhat repetitive. There are three or four main themes that Zimmer has interwoven and enhanced. It also does not include, to my knowledge, the songs that were written for the characters of Iris and Arthur. Here are a few of my favorites:

"Maestro" - This is the opening theme at the very beginning of the movie, played by Miles on the piano. It's absolutely beautiful and one of the more Morricone-esque songs on the score.

"Iris and Jasper" - This song plays throughout the scene at the office, when Iris learns of Jasper's engagement and goes home alone. It's mostly piano and strings, and there is gorgeous guitar at the end.

"Anything Can Happen" - Mostly piano, this has the Santa Ana winds theme when Iris is standing outside her LA house after meeting Miles.

"Kiss Goodbye" - This is a reprise of the Maestro theme and has a little bit of the Santa Ana winds theme as well, but it is much more upbeat than in 'Anything Can Happen' and has some choral voices.

"Cry" - Most everyone who liked the score has been looking for this song -it's the upbeat energetic song playing when Amanda is running over the snowy countryside to Graham near the end of the movie.

Please definitely give this soundtrack a try if you're into movie scores. Hans Zimmer really did a wonderful job, and it's a great CD to relax to.

It's got gumption!5
"The Holiday" is an uplifting movie, and the film score is equally as delightful. This is one of those feel-good CDs that is guaranteed to put the listener in a happy mood, no matter what. I'm particularly fond of the main theme, "Maestro;" "Dream Kitchen," which reminds me of some music from the soundtrack to "The Thomas Crown Affair" (the 1999 version); "Definitely Unexpected," a sexy and flirty little number; "Busy Guy," which is basically a reprise of "Definitely Unexpected;" "For Nancy," a jazzy and cute tune; "Kiss Goodbye," which is slightly bittersweet at first but then extremely fiery and passionate; "Three Musketeers," a mellow and sentimental melody; "Gumption," which is invigorating and spirited (and also incorporates the melody that Jack Black's character wrote for Arthur in the film); and "Cry," the traditional happy ending song. What a great soundtrack!

Hans Zimmer Shows His Versatility With This Warm & Melodic Score5
Hans Zimmer's breathtaking year of 2006 came to a close with The Holiday. He started off by exciting us with his follow-up score in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. He then wowed us with The Da Vinci Code, truly the best score of the year. The Academy should be shot for not even acknowledging his great work. So, after composing the two highest grossing films of the year Zimmer decided to go small and composed fellow collaborator Nancy Meyers' The Holiday.

What Hans Zimmer is masterful at is simply being able to go from thriller to action to romantic comedy all in one year. While 2006 was nowhere near the grand year he had in 2005, it was truly a benchmark for the composer. What we have with The Holiday is a very melodic and soothing score. It reminds me a bit of the work he did on Nine Months and As Good As It Gets. The piano and guitar are the key instruments here in the score with a grand backing by string instruments. Zimmer utilizes his buddy Heitor Periera's skills on the guitar to give it that signature Zimmer feel that we've come to know. Periera has collaborated with Zimmer on films such as Madagascar, M:I-2 and more appropriately in Spanglish. The score is playful at times, it becomes warm, some sad parts to suggest isolation. It has everything a romatic comedy score should have. The first track is definitely the highlight of the album, it's trademark Zimmer and the most melodic track on the album. Track 16 was unique for the use of the single trumpet. It was a jazzy cue that really did not sound like Zimmer at all, maybe Periera had the greater influence since he provided vocals. Another thing to point out is that this the first time Zimmer used his wife for vocals in one of his scores. A great finish to a great year that earned Zimmer 6 IFMCA Nominations and two wins. He won for best action/thriller score for The Da Vinci Code and The Holiday earned him a best comedy score win.

Amazon.com essential recording
Carole King was famous as a writer of girl-group hits in the '60s. In 1971, she became more famous. That's the year Tapestry became one of the biggest-selling LPs of all time. It's easy to hear why--the music is loose, earthy, L.A. session-pop. King is casual, intimate, and tough; she covers all the emotional ground of the post-liberated woman with ease. She brings adult nuance to "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" and comes up with hits ("It's Too Late," "I Feel the Earth Move") whose white-soul realism and maturity put pop hits to shame. --Steve Tignor --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

A classic that has passed the test of time5
This was a beautiful album when I first heard it in 1971. It is a beautiful CD when I listen to it today. Tapestry marked Carole King's transition from remarkable "Tin-Pan Alley' pop song-writer for the likes of Neil Sedaka, the Shirelles (who I think originally recorded Will You Love Me Tomorrow) and others to a singer/performer of the first rank. The album exploded in 1971, no small feat when you consider that 1971 may have seen the culmination in the evolution of the album from a compilation of inidvidual hits into a set-piece that was best served whole. The evolution began with Sgt. Pepper and Pet Sounds and went on from there. The growth of FM radio was fueled in part by the ability of those stations to play entire albums at a time. Similarly, the fact that FM stations would play whole sides of album encouraged musicians to create albums that were more than just a series of unrelated songs. But I digress . . .

There is a two-fold beauty gained from listening to Tapestry today. The first is the nostalgic pleasure gained from listening again to beautiful words set perfectly to music. This pleasure is probably limited to those of us, of a certain age, who cut their musical teeth on the music of the 60s and early 70s. The second is the pleasure anyone, no matter their age, can get from listening to the combination of lyrics and music that is Tapestry.

If the definition of a classic is a piece of work that survives and propsers over time, then Tapestry is a classic.

As superb as the day it was recorded: a masterwork5
Why has Carol King's 1971 recording Tapestry stood the test of time?
Two words: sincerity and emotion.

The CD I bought from Amazon came with a sticker announcing: "4X Grammy Winner! Over 11 Million Sold! Every song's a classic!" But that really doesn't explain why, whether you're an "old timer" who got the original on vinyl or a young person experiencing King for the first time, Tapestry is so fresh, vital and appealing from start to finish.

It's not just King's superb white-soul sing-along melodies, or her music's wonderful rhythms, or the incredible variety of songs on this beautifully remastered CD. King wrote for a LOT of other artists who recorded her music and became very famous doing so doing the songs on this CD.

Indeed, when she recorded this in 1971 she was not as well-known to the general public as her music -- but that quickly changed when this became one of the great-selling
LPs of all time.

The secret is in her unpretentious, 100-per-cent post-liberated woman singing. She means EVERY word, every phrase and it comes across. Each jaunty song is a tasteful, at times playful, mini-drama. People often say that "so and so" (fill in the blank here) is the female equivalent of Frank Sinatra, considered the King of singing lyrics with supreme sincerity. But the REAL queen is definitely King. Her lyrics (happy and sad) don't just come alive, they're bursting with life-force as much as her music is bursting with worldclass melodies and rhythms.

Example: James Taylor grew increasingly famous (and rich) with his smash recording of You've Got a Friend. But his does not contain one-millionth the sincerity of King's rendition. Anyone who's ever "down" should listen to her sing the song -- and you'll feel like you do have a friend. And gift this to a beloved friend or relative and tell them THAT SONG is for them and when they listen they will completely get the message, a message King delivers right from the heart.

When the concert-challenged (she did not like to perform in public) King sings her songs the more famous versions of her music performed by more famous artists seem like
elevator music in comparison. Her "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" is laced with vulnerability unmatched by any other singer. `It's Too Late" takes on a near-defiant tone due to her phrasing.

She also does unparalleled work with the more upbeat songs such as "Where You Lead' and (my favorite) `I Feel the Earth Move" (our unofficial theme song here in California).

If you've heard King, get, listen to and savor this remastered CD. If you love someone, gift it. If you're a young musician or singer listen to and EMULATE a master writer and
performer. King's lyrics, music, rhythms and sincerity haunted and moved me in 1971 and they do today since this CD is every milligram good as it was when it was first recorded.

According to the liner notes, Tapestry was #1 for 15 weeks, on the charts for more than six years, and earned four Grammies including Record of the Year (for It's Too Late) and
Song of the Year (You've Got a Friend." This CD also contains two wonderful previously unreleased bonus tracks.

The Greatest album ever made5
Everyone had a "Tapestry" album in the early 70's.Almost all the songs were played on the radio. If it wasen't Carole singing one of them ,it was James Taylor or Aretha Franklin, who had huge hits.I love Carole's voice, its so layed back and natural.I remember hearing"Its Too Late," played over and over again on the radio when I was in school.I fell in love with it.When you think about it,there's not much production on this record. Its just piano, bass, and drums. The main thing is the words and music from one of the greatest songwriters ever."So Far Away"is another favorite.Carole goes from Ballads,to rock and roll with "I fill the Earth Move." I bought alot of Carole King records after "Tapestry." I've enjoyed all of them, but this one will be played forever in everyone's CD players.

Inexpensively Made CD Player2
**
I am an adult who ordered this CD player because I love the feature of the speakers built into the player. I don't enjoy headphones as much as I enjoy carrying my CD player with me around the house and listening to it through the speaker. These types of CD players are hard to find. I thought that the design was cute and clever.

Unfortunately, the speakers are so weak that it is almost impossible to hear the CDs being played unless the player is put up to the ear, which defeats the whole purpose. With the headphones, the sound volume is louder.

The whole CD Player is very cheaply made. After trying to use it for a day, I put it in my donation pile to be given to charity. I almost threw it away, but then I thought that perhaps there would be some little girl who would enjoy playing with it for a few days before it broke. I was very disappointed.

Cute, but not recommended, unfortunately.

Rip off piece of junk1
This player is simply a rip off. The biggest piece of junk that I ever bought. I tried this and that but it always skips or spins forever without producing any sounds. When it does produce sounds, the speakers are so underpowered that is still a useless piece of junk. Stay away from it.

Mostly Great Songs4
It's an Ok CD, nothing spectacular, I have most of these songs already, and you might already have them too.

And for odd reason, they have to put a Keith Urban song practically on EVERY CD they make, and I don't know why?

But overall its a great CD.

Awesome CD!!5
This Now CD is probably one of the best Now's yet, other then Now 7, 15 and 23. All the songs on this CD are up to date and great party hits! Whoever came up with the idea of the "Now That's What I Call Music" series is the smartest person ever. And the bonus track really put the icing on the cake.

sum good songs4
