This DVD is worthless. There is an intro on dvd, with a guy sitting with his guitar showing you how to hold it, the parts of the guitar, and hand position, etc. It is meant to be viewed as you follow along in the book. The problem is that you play along with an audio only track, no video. Why don't you just include a cd? I thought the point of a DVD is so I can hear and SEE what you are trying to show me. Also, when you start the track you are given a four count, and the teacher begins. A real pain when I am trying to hit the play button on my remote and then try to get my fingers where they are supposed to be before this dude starts playing. I also think the tempo is a little quick, as I found myself using poor technique just to keep up.

I gave this about 3 hours of effort before I just gave up on this book.

Best Guitar Book I've ever bought!5
I read the other reviews that were negative on this book, but I have to say I have always struggled to learn how to play the guitar and read music until I got this book. I love the book so much I got the 2nd book once I had mastered this one. I think it's a great book to lean the guitar and to learn how to read music. I will agree with one of the other commentators that the CD that comes with the books are not very good, but you don't really need them. Just study the book on your own, and you'll be playing and reading music in no time. I think it's the best guitar book out there, and I highly recommend it!

Bored me to Tears!2
This book was one of the most boring books for a beginner in my opinion. The material they cover is adequate, but for some reason it just really didn't get me excited to play like the "Guitar Basics" by Bruce Buckingham did.
